Job Description: 

Job Purpose

To support the Head of Shariah Audit in ensuring that all banking operations, products, and services are fully compliant with Shariah principles and AAOIFI standards. The role involves conducting audits, reviewing processes, and assess the integrity of the Islamic banking framework.

Key Accountabilities

Shariah Audit Support
•    Assist the Head of Shariah Audit in planning and executing the annual Shariah audit plan.
•    Ability to conduct field audits independently and reviews of departments, branches, and product as per the Internal Shariah Audit Plan.
•    Ongoing update of the risk assessment, Audit program and working paper and update the Audit system accordingly.
•    Document Audit findings and prepare detailed reports for review by the Head of Shariah Audit.
•    Follow up on shariah Audit issues raised to ensure that the action plan is completed. 
Reporting & Documentation
•    Maintain accurate records of Shariah audit activities, findings, resolutions and update the Audit system accordingly.
•    Assist in preparing periodic reports for the Shariah Supervisory Board and senior management “whenever required”

Compliance & Advisory
•    Ensure all audit activities are conducted in accordance with AAOIFI standards, Central Bank regulations, and internal Shariah governance frameworks.
•    Provide advisory support to business units on Shariah compliance matters during product development and operational reviews.
•    Participate in the review of contracts, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with Shariah principles.
Team Collaboration & Development
•    Collaborate with other assurance functions (e.g., Internal Audit, Risk, Compliance) to ensure a coordinated approach to governance and control.

Job Context

The Assistant Manager - Sharia Reviewer operates within a dynamic and highly regulated Islamic financial environment, where compliance with Shariah principles is paramount to maintaining institutional integrity and stakeholder trust. The role requires a deep understanding of both Islamic jurisprudence and modern financial practices, as well as the ability to navigate evolving regulatory expectations from bodies such as the Central Bank and AAOIFI.

Education

Bachelors in Finance and Accounting

Experience and Skills

Education
A degree in Shariah/Islamic Banking or related qualifications in Islamic Banking and Finance - University Graduate (Accounting / Finance / Law / Banking)
Professional Qualifications
A professional certificate in Shari’ah and Islamic Banking Audit from one of the organizations that support Islamic Finance for example:
• Certified Shari’ah Advisor and Auditor (CSAA) from AAOIFI.
• The Certified Islamic Specialist in Shariah Auditing from CIBAFI

Work Experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in shari’ah auditing in Islamic banking/ financial services environment.
• Strong Islamic Banking Shariah Knowledge and strong Audit background.
• Technically proficient in Islamic banking operations and able to execute audit plan independently
Language Requirements
• Strong command of English and reasonable command of Arabic.
